You’ll find all this and more at a Catholic school.
Senior students from Catholic secondary schools across the Diocese of Wollongong recently participated in the annual "See Judge Act" workshop, focusing on the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference 2024/25 Social Justice Statement.
This year's statement, Truth and Peace: A Gospel Word in a Violent World, was launched on Social Justice Sunday. It calls for a deeper understanding of the causes and consequences of violence in today's world. It encourages individuals and communities to actively work towards peace through truth-telling, dialogue, and practical initiatives.
During the workshop, students engaged with the statement's themes through a variety of activities. They heard a powerful keynote address from a speaker who shared their personal experiences with the impact of war. Group discussions provided a platform for students to explore the complex nature of conflict and violence, while a drumming workshop allowed them to express their reflections through music.
The "See Judge Act" program empowers students to become active agents of peace within their communities. By delving into the ACBC Social Justice Statement, they gain a deeper understanding of the challenges facing our world and are inspired to contribute to building a more just and peaceful future.
The ACBC Social Justice Statement draws inspiration from scripture and papal encyclicals such as Pope St. John XXIII's Pacem in Terris and Pope Francis' Fratelli Tutti. It emphasises the importance of encountering others with compassion, engaging in dialogue at all levels, and recognising the inherent dignity of every human being.
