Wollongong Diocese Sports Council Medallion

• Students must be selected and competed in a minimum of three Diocesan teams and competed in these teams at the NSW CCC Level (school-based relay teams in swimming and athletics are NOT counted as a diocesan team) OR
• Students have been selected in a Combined Catholic Colleges team and competed at the NSW All Schools Level (CCC merit teams or a CCC 'seconds' team does not qualify);
• For Athletics, students who obtain 1st place at NSWCC in field events, first place in the 400m, 800m and 1500m events and 1st or 2nd place in the 100m or 200m events to qualify for a council medallion AND
• Students must demonstrate a high level of sporting achievement and contribution as a Diocesan/CCC team member; AND
• Students must demonstrate that they embrace the ethos of the School, Diocesan and Combined Catholic Colleges teams (including appropriate participation, behaviour and sportsmanship)

Wollongong Diocese Sports Council Blue (Medal)

• Students will have been selected in a minimum of two Combined Catholic Colleges teams and competed at the NSW All Schools Level in both of these teams OR
• Have been selected in a NSW All School team (where applicable) and competed at the School Sport Australia event,
• Students must demonstrate exceptional sporting and personal achievements
• Students must demonstrate a high level of sporting achievement and contribution as a team member; AND
• Students must demonstrate that they embrace the ethos of the School, Diocesan and Combined Catholic Colleges teams (including appropriate participation, behaviour and sportsmanship)
• For Athletics, students who obtain 1st place at NSWCC, 1st place at NSW All Schools in the same event and represent NSW schools at the National schools athletics are eligible for a blue award
• In a Pacific Schools Games year students must participate in Diocesan and CCC pathway events to be considered. Students who participate in events not run at CCC level will not be considered for this award.

Outstanding Individual Award

• Will be a Sports Council Blue recipient OR
• Have been selected in a NSW All Schools team or Australian team AND
• Be the most outstanding sportsperson of the year

Bishop Mascord Trophy

• Outstanding boy Secondary Sport

Terry White Trophy

• Outstanding girl Secondary Sport

Individual Medallions and a Certificate of recognition are to be awarded to school-based teams who win an NSW Catholic School event (Division 1 or Major only) or NSW All School Event. Such events may be sport-specific teams such as Netball, Basketball or Rugby League but must be true state-wide carnivals endorsed by MacKillop, NSWCCC or an appropriate state sporting body. They may also include relay teams in swimming and athletics for primary schools or secondary schools based teams in Cross Country.

For confirmation of eligibility schools or teachers should contact the executive officer of the sports council.

Schools will then be required to complete the attached nomination form and return it to the executive officer by the date listed on the form.

“Some people touch our hearts and we are changed forever….” 

… Ched Towns, a special guest at the 1999 CDF Sports Awards was indeed one such man. Ched was left blind from disease at an early age and rose from this adversity to achieve some amazing personal feats characterised by courage and determination. Ched passed away in January 2000 on the highest base camp on the Himalayas attempting to be the first blind man to climb the mountains unassisted. Ched indeed touched our hearts showing us that winning in life is not the most important thing but giving your best.

This award is to be given to a student who has:

• demonstrated that they embrace the ethos of the School and Diocese (including appropriate participation, citizenship and sportsmanship)
• a disability either sensory, intellectual or physical, or an illness
• shown outstanding commitment, effort and determination in their sporting pursuits
• tried and achieved the best that they can
